The Willows started out as an exploration in genre. As a long-time fan of fantasy, I wanted to write my own, and over the course of a couple of years, I produced the Willows Trilogy. It starts out with magic, with an ancient ritual gone wrong, with a world in pain, and a group of friends that get thrusted into a world of magic with only each other to depend on.
